Boutaugh was founded in 2011 by Christopher Wrobleski, a Los Angeles television producer and event designer. As the son of a surgeon, Chris's fine motor skills and meticulous attention to detail were not only strongly encouraged from a very early age, they were cultivated through various creative mediums; from drawing and painting to ceramics and music.
Where do bow ties and the love of vintage haberdashery come in? Before shipping off to college, Chris's grandfather, Joseph Boutaugh, gave him two vintage tuxedos and a box of his vintage bow ties. One stood out in particular, a slightly oversized black velvet clip-on. Years later the inspiration of this bow tie would give birth to Boutaugh.
His attention to detail directly translates to the materials chosen for each bow tie. Hand selecting the velvets and vintage silks ensures the best feeling fabrics, colors, and designs. Estate sales, flea markets, and vintage stores are constantly scoured all over the world to find the finest fabrics to make one-of-a-kind or limited edition bow ties.
All Boutaugh bow ties are hand-made in the USA.
How long will it take to receive my order?
All Boutaugh bow ties are hand-made, and depending on current inventory, your bow may be made to order. That said, most orders ship within two or three business days, and are shipped via USPS Priority Mail. Custom orders may take an additional day or two, depending on the material.
How do I place a custom order?
The best way to place a custom order is to email us through our contact page. We will work with you one-on-one to create the perfect bow tie for you.
What materials can you use for custom bow ties?
While the majority of our bow ties are made from silk or silk velvet, we can make bow ties out of almost any fabric. Some exceptions may be fabrics that are too thin or too thick, but we can work with nearly anything. We have even made bow ties from cork and leather, and are always up for a challenge.
What is your return policy?
Returns on unworn products are gladly accepted within 7 business days of the tracked delivery date minus the cost of shipping. Returns on unworn products after 7 business days will receive store credit.
I have my own fabric, can you make a bow tie from it?
Most likely, yes. We are happy to make bow ties from fabric you provide, but there are some fabrics that do not work quite as well as others. Please email us for more info, and to receive a quote.
Can you make hand-tied bow ties?
Yes. We are happy to custom make hand-tied bow ties, however velvet and some other fabrics do not lend themselves as a good fabrics for being tied. Almost all of our bow ties are available as "pre-tied" (a bow that has a neck strap, but does not come untied) and "clip-on" (the bow has a clip that attaches to your collar without a strap that goes around your neck).
Can you rush orders?
Yes. Contact us before placing your order, and we can often rush your order if you need it by a certain date. Additional shipping fees may apply.
